Dictamaphone is designed with your privacy as a core principle. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it's used, and why you can trust that your information stays on your device.
Dictamaphone uses Apple's AVSpeechSynthesizer framework to read documents aloud. Your document text is processed entirely on-device to generate spoken audio. No text is transmitted to any server.
When you record a voice note, Dictamaphone uses Apple's SFSpeechRecognizer framework to convert your speech to text. This sends your audio to Apple's Speech Recognition servers for transcription. This data is processed by Apple according to Apple's Privacy Policy. No audio is sent to any other third party.
Before your first recording, Dictamaphone displays an in-app consent prompt explaining this data sharing. You can revoke consent at any time in the app's Settings, which will prompt you again before any future recording.
No audio recordings are stored by Dictamaphone — only the resulting text transcript is saved as a note.
Dictamaphone requests microphone access solely to record voice notes. In addition to the iOS system permission, the app provides its own consent prompt disclosing that audio is sent to Apple for transcription.
Your documents and notes are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data is not synced to any cloud service, server, or third party. If you delete the app, all stored data is removed.
Dictamaphone does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data with third parties other than Apple (as described above for speech recognition). Specifically:
Dictamaphone offers an optional Pro upgrade via Apple's StoreKit framework. Purchase transactions are handled entirely by Apple. Dictamaphone does not receive, process, or store any payment information. Apple's own privacy policy governs transaction data.
Because Dictamaphone collects no data whatsoever, it is safe for users of all ages.
If this policy is updated, the effective date at the top of this page will be revised. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
